A Filipino businesswoman who won 4th runner-up at the inaugural Mrs. Global Universe 2019 pageant held in Singapore recently recalled she almost quit during the finals of the international competition following a challenging moment in her life.

During a victory party held at a hotel in Taguig City recently, Irene B. Montemayor revealed that she was not feeling well during the finals because she was having menstrual period.

"At that time I had my period. So I could barely walk. At the same time, sorry to say it was really pouring out. But I stood up and fought for the country," said Montemayor who was then cheered by guests.

Montemayor also said that being on her own in Singapore is another big challenge for her. "I wasn't used to being on my own. It was really the first time in many years."

Mrs. Netherlands was crowned Mrs. Global Universe 2019. Other winners were: Russia, 1st runner-up; Singapore, 2nd runner-up; and Siberia, 3rd runner-up.

It was a triple celebration for Montemayor during the homecoming event. Aside from winning the pageant, she and her husband Carlos celebrated their 15th wedding year and the 6th birth anniversary of their daughter Stephany.

The married beauty queen is engaged in agriculture and advocates dress for success. "The mission of my advocacy 'Dress for Success' is to empower women to achieve economic independence and encourage them to strive and work harder in life. It's similar to John Robert Powers modelling school."

Montemayor also thanked her supporters and Mitzie Go Gil, organizer of the annual Mrs. Philippines Asia-Pacific contest.

Asked if she would join other pageants in the future, she said: "I will ask my husband and my team about it."

Montemayor, a relative of ABS CBN broadcaster Doris Bigornia, is a graduate of Legal Management at the University of Santo Tomas and finished her Master's Degree in Communication at the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School.

The Glam Team of reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray helped Montemayor prepare for the international pageant.
