It took five years before pageant veteran Emma Mary Tiglao finally decided to join again the prestigious Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant. This time she is prepared for the battle.
"Last year, I already decided that I will join Bb. Pilipinas this year. I still have fears and the expectations of pageant fans are so high this time and that's the pressure. I waited for five years and I think this is the right time," said Tiglao, during an exclusive interview before she enlisted for the national pageant at the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. in Quezon City Tuesday night.
Tiglao, 24, of Pampanga, said that she sacrificed other things in life just to focus on her second stint in Bb. Pilipinas.
"I started to train for the pageant in December 2018. But beginning January 2019, I did not accept any extra work anymore. I am focused on the crown. I also try to balance my time with my family. My father who works abroad is on vacation in the country right now but I am training," she said.
Tiglao said that she also enrolled in a personality development training course to further enhance her communication skills, apart from the other trainings set by the Kagandahang Flores camp under Rodgil Flores.
She was only 19 when she first competed in Bb. Pilipinas 2014 beauty pageant won by Mary Jean Lastimosa. She finished in the top 15. After her first try, the beauty queen joined other pageants, worked abroad as a model and accepted hosting jobs.
"I was able to buy a brand new car from my earnings in modelling. I drive the car in Pampanga. After that, we bought a house for my parents. The car is already paid. But my sister and I share in paying the house," Tiglao said.
When Tiglao worked in Cambodia, she said that she had the honor to judge the inaugural Miss Universe Cambodia 2016 beauty contest and even crowned the winner. She is also into fashion design.
Tiglao revealed that she worked for a distribution company in Manila but only stayed there for three months. "I think office work is not really for me. So I shifted gears."
Early 2018, Tiglao joined the Miss Midori Clark Casino pageant where she finished first runner-up. "It was a testing ground for me. I wanna know if I still have the charm or If I can still handle the pressures of pageant. And I made it. So now I decided to go back to Bb. PIlipinas."
Asked what she likes about Miss Universe titleholders Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray, Tiglao said: "I've met and talked to Pia. I love Pia. She's a real person. With Catriona, she came prepared for the pageant. One thing I learned about Cat is that sometimes, you have to decide on your own to know what's really best for you. Of course, you also have to tell your mentors about it."
The grand coronation of Bb. Pilipinas 2019 pageant will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City in June.
